Anxiety & Depression

Tools for the thoughts that won't let go.

Recurring worry, low mood, thought patterns that keep pulling you under — anxiety and depression are exhausting to live with. Practical skills, honest reflection, and real support. Not in a rush, not in a formula.

Anxiety

More than just worry

Anxiety is the nervous system doing what it's designed to do — anticipating threats and preparing for them. The problem is when it starts doing that job in situations that don't actually require it, or can't turn off when the moment passes.

Chronic anxiety is exhausting. It narrows your world. You start avoiding things that trigger it, which feels like relief in the short term but reinforces the pattern over time. Relationships, work, and the ability to be present all take hits.

Counseling for anxiety involves understanding the patterns driving it — cognitive, physiological, and often historical — and learning to respond differently. That means practical skills (not just insight), and sometimes addressing the underlying experiences that set the nervous system to high alert in the first place.

Depression

Not a character flaw

Depression isn't laziness or weakness — it's a condition that affects how you think, feel, and move through the world. The fog, the low energy, the anhedonia (nothing sounds good anymore), the way self-critical thoughts become indistinguishable from facts — these are real, and they respond to real treatment.

Depression often has roots — in loss, in trauma, in long-standing beliefs about yourself that were built in early and never examined. Treating it well usually means both working with the present symptoms and understanding where they came from.

I take a practical, evidence-based approach that addresses both the cognitive patterns and the emotional underpinnings — and, where relevant, a faith lens for clients who want one.

My Approach

What the work actually looks like

Understanding the pattern

Anxiety and depression have patterns — triggers, thought cascades, behavioral responses — that become automatic over time. Making those patterns visible is often the first step toward changing them.

Practical skills

Grounding techniques, cognitive restructuring, behavioral activation, nervous system regulation. I draw on cognitive behavioral approaches because they work — without turning therapy into homework assignments you dread.

Going deeper when needed

Sometimes anxiety or depression is sitting on top of something older — a loss, a trauma, a formative experience that shaped how you see yourself. When that's the case, we go there. EMDR can be effective for anxiety rooted in past events.

Faith-integrated (if wanted)

For clients from a faith background, spiritual resources can be part of the work — prayer, Scripture, examining how beliefs about God and self intersect with depression and shame. Offered, not assumed.

What to Expect

Realistic timelines and honest conversations

Mild to moderate anxiety and depression often respond meaningfully within 8–16 sessions. More entrenched patterns, or cases with significant trauma history underneath, take longer. I'll be honest with you about what's realistic and adjust expectations as we go.

I don't make referrals for psychiatric medication, but I'm happy to coordinate with a prescriber if you're already working with one, or to talk through whether that might be worth exploring. Therapy and medication together often produce better outcomes than either alone for moderate to severe depression.

The goal isn't to eliminate all anxiety or to manufacture happiness — it's to restore your capacity to engage with your life. For most people, that's entirely achievable.

Get Started

You don't have to keep managing this alone

Reaching out takes energy you may not feel like you have right now — I know that. The first session is just a conversation. Tell me what's going on, and we'll figure out together if working with me makes sense.

Sessions: 55 minutes  ·  Rate: $150  ·  Private-pay. Superbills available for out-of-network reimbursement.
